Iran FM Spox: Israel Is Region’s ‘Greatest Security Threat’

ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Israeli regime poses the greatest threat to regional stability, security and cooperation among countries in the region.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said regional countries should strengthen their security through cooperation rather than relying on foreign powers. Referring to the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement among Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, he described it as evidence of a changing regional outlook and growing recognition that security cannot be imported.

Baghaei said Israeli attacks on Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, along with US support for Israel, have reinforced regional countries’ understanding of the main threats to their stability. He stressed Iran’s view that regional security is indivisible and that identifying the sources of threats is essential to improving peace and security.

On the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei said its closure was caused by US-Israeli military aggression against Iran rather than any dispute with Oman. He said negotiations with Oman over a safe shipping route were a bilateral matter and that reopening the waterway would depend on ending the US naval blockade and addressing what Iran considers Washington’s illegal actions.

Baghaei said the strait could not be considered secure while the blockade and other US violations continued. He added that discussions with Oman cover navigation safety, environmental issues, maritime services and mine clearance, while rejecting speculation that Iran was currently considering transit fees for vessels.
