Major Cleanup of Polluted Waters Along Qeshm Shores

ALWAGHT- A local official in southern Hormozgan Province has announced that large sections of the waters along Qeshm Island’s shores have been cleared of the recent oil slick.

Operations to contain and clean up an oil spill along the shores of Qeshm Island began on Saturday, with local authorities coordinating efforts to prevent the pollution from spreading and protect the marine ecosystem. Assessment teams first surveyed the affected coastline to determine the extent of the contamination.

Oil-absorbent pads and sheets were deployed to contain and remove the spill, while dispersants were sprayed by vessels in areas with more extensive pollution. Authorities also took precautionary measures to protect nearby fish and shrimp farms in coordination with the Hormozgan Fisheries Directorate.

Hormozgan’s Ports and Maritime Organization said a large portion of the contaminated area has now been contained, with monitoring and cleanup operations continuing until all remaining oil is removed. Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi blamed US aggression for the oil slick near Qeshm Island and the Strait of Hormuz.
