ALWAGHT- The Pentagon says American forces targeted three Iranian oil carriers operating in waters spanning the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the two countries.
The US Central Command says American forces struck three Iranian crude oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, claiming the vessels were linked to an IRGC-affiliated “shadow network.” CENTCOM said two tankers were rendered inoperable near Kharg Island and Jask, while a third was hit multiple times after its crew was ordered to abandon ship.
The strikes came amid a renewed escalation between Iran and the United States. Iranian sources reported that one tanker near Kharg Island was hit by four projectiles, with no casualties reported and the crew evacuated. The US also alleged that Iranian forces had attacked an American aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer.
The latest attacks follow several recent US strikes inside Iran that reportedly killed and wounded civilians and military personnel, including attacks in Larak Island, Khuzestan and Hormozgan. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military positions in Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, further intensifying the direct confrontation between the two countries.
