ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has laid out a seven-day mechanism for restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, saying the process would commence as soon as Washington formally agrees to Tehran’s terms under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Araghchi said Iran has proposed a seven-day roadmap to restore maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with implementation beginning once the US accepts Tehran’s conditions. He said the process could be completed within four to five days, with the strait reopening on the sixth and a final agreement reached on the seventh.
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to international law and diplomacy while accusing the US and Israel of aggression and violations of international law. Araghchi also rejected Western claims about Iran’s nuclear program, stressing Tehran’s commitments under the NPT and IAEA safeguards.
On Hormuz, Araghchi said disruptions resulted from foreign military operations and argued that normal shipping cannot resume without credible guarantees against renewed aggression. He said an earlier mechanism under the Islamabad MoU had restored traffic to about 60 percent of pre-war levels before US strikes disrupted the process.
