ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Washington faces a choice between reaching a fair and honorable agreement with Tehran and risking a more severe strategic setback should it undertake further military action against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the United States would suffer an even greater strategic defeat if it chose military action over diplomacy. In an article published by The Financial Times, he questioned Washington’s commitment to peace, citing previous US and Israeli attacks launched while negotiations were underway. He nevertheless stressed that Tehran remained open to a peaceful settlement while prepared to defend its sovereignty.
Araghchi also outlined a seven-day proposal presented to Washington through mediators at the recent United Nations General Assembly. The plan envisaged reopening the Strait of Hormuz on the sixth day and resuming negotiations on a final agreement the following day. He said implementing the initiative could help restore normal conditions across the region.
Warning that further escalation could threaten civilian lives, regional stability and the global economy, Araghchi argued that the war had also inflicted significant costs on US interests, including damage to military bases and equipment. He emphasized that alternative shipping routes could not replace the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and maintained that additional military aggression would not resolve the conflict.
